7 Harsh Truths I’ve Learned as a 21-Year-Old Kenyan Entrepreneur (No Mentor. No Blueprint. Just Hunger.)

I never had a mentor. No blueprint. No money. Just a hunger to learn and a deep belief that I could provide value to the world—even when the world hadn’t yet noticed me.

The 3 AM Grind I was just a 21-year-old in a cramped, stuffy room, the kind where the walls felt like they were closing in on you. But my mind? My mind was limitless. Every morning at 3 AM, while the world around me slept—some dreaming, others just existing—I was awake. The glow of my laptop screen was my only light, the clatter of my keyboard the only sound.

I remember the exhaustion. The way my eyes burned from lack of sleep, the way my back ached from hunching over for hours. But I also remember the fire—the relentless, unshakable drive that whispered, "Keep going. You have something to prove—to yourself."

Most people around me didn’t understand. "Why wake up so early?" they’d ask. "Why not just get a normal job?" But I wasn’t built for normal. I was built for more.

The Hustle Before the Hustle Before the sun rose, I was already deep into coding tutorials, scribbling notes from The Millionaire Fastlane like it held the secrets to my survival. Because in a way, it did. Every page, every line of code, was another step away from the life I refused to accept.

By day, I worked at my attachment, showing up with tired eyes but a sharp mind. And when the workday ended? Back to the grind. No parties. No distractions. Just me, my laptop, and a hunger that wouldn’t let me quit.

The Interview That Changed Everything Then came the opportunity—a shot at a real software development job. I applied, not expecting much, but life had other plans. Out of 21 candidates, I was the one they chose.

But then came the gut punch.

"25K."

I stared at the offer letter, my hands trembling. 25K? After everything? After the sleepless nights, the sacrifices, the belief that I was worth more? My throat tightened. For a moment, fear won. I signed the paper, my signature shaky, my mind screaming.

That night, I barely slept. The ceiling fan spun lazily above me, but my thoughts were a hurricane. Is this it? Is this what I worked so hard for?

Then I remembered MJ DeMarco’s words: *"Quit the job. Build the dream." * The Turning Point The next morning, I woke up with a clarity I hadn’t felt in months. My hands steadied as I typed the email—short, polite, but firm. "Thank you, but no."

I hit send before I could second-guess myself.

And just like that, I was free. Free to bet on myself. Free to build something mine.

Building RatifiedTech—From Nothing The first few weeks were terrifying. The doubt crept in. What if I fail? What if I end up with nothing? But I pushed through. I had to.

Then, the first client signed on. Then another. And another.

The testimonials started rolling in—real people, real businesses, telling me how I’d helped them grow. That’s when it hit me: This wasn’t just about websites. It was about impact.

I wasn’t just a coder or a designer. I was a strategist, a storyteller, a problem-solver. My real edge? Understanding people.

The Shift—Why I’m Sharing This Now, I’m sharing this again. Because success isn’t just about making money—it’s about making a difference.

I know what it’s like to feel lost, you have the skill but no idea how to present it to the world, especially with no one to guide you. I know the loneliness of entrepreneurship—the nights you question everything, the days you wonder if it’s worth it.

That’s why I’m doing this. To educate. To help. To show every struggling entrepreneur that you can build something from nothing.

This Is Just the Beginning This isn’t just my story. It’s yours too.

If you’re reading this, sitting in your own stuffed room, wondering if your hustle will ever pay off—keep going.

I see you. I am you.

And this? This is just the beginning.

Let’s grow together.
